We offer multiple orthodontic treatment options

Having straight teeth and a beautiful smile can do more than just improve a person’s appearance. It improves the overall health of the mouth. Crooked teeth, for example, are places where food, bacteria, and plaque can easily become trapped, increasing the risk of developing a cavity or gum disease. Straight teeth are less likely to become infected or stained as a result. Additionally, a misaligned bite can lead to jaw, face and neck pain, something that can be corrected with orthodontics.

Types of Treatment

For many of our patients who can benefit from orthodontic treatment we are proud to be certified providers of Invisalign® and ClearCorrect® so patients throughout the Burbank area can select the treatment option that works best for them. Regardless of whether you decide to wear traditional braces or clear aligners, they are both incredibly effective at straightening teeth with the major differences being in the process of how they move teeth into position and the overall patient experience.

Both Invisalign and ClearCorrect are designed primarily for adults although some teens may qualify. This process works by wearing a set of clear aligners. When you visit Dr.’s Chan and Segulyev, we will take impressions of your teeth so that the dental lab can create a series of aligners that will be worn throughout the process. Each aligner is worn for around two weeks and slowly moves teeth into place. Once all of the aligners have all been used, your teeth will be straight!  At times, attachments are placed onto the teeth to provide additional stability for the aligners. These attachments are tooth colored and can help teeth to move more quickly.  Also, some cases will need to have space created by polishing the enamel between teeth.  A quick, simple and painless procedure.

The main reason Burbank patients like using Invisalign® and Clear Correct® for their orthodontics treatment is that the aligners are clear and they are easily removed.  When worn, people you meet will not be able to tell you even have them on!  They are supposed to be worn for 22 hours a day and taken out while eating and brushing your teeth. This is convenient because it allows patients to eat their favorite foods without worrying about food becoming stuck in between brackets. It also reduces the risk of teeth becoming stained since brushing and flossing is just as easy as it was prior to starting the treatment.

Solving Overcrowding Issues

Many people have crooked teeth because there is not enough room in their mouth for all of their adult teeth. This is called overcrowding, and it can be fixed with orthodontics. One of the main reasons for overcrowding is children losing their baby teeth earlier than they should. Preventative dental care can help baby teeth to stay in longer but if they do fall out prematurely the surrounding teeth can move out of place and eliminate the spot that was supposed to be preserved for the adult tooth. When the adult tooth tries to come in, there is no room, leading to overcrowding.

Straightening Teeth

Once there is enough room for all of the teeth in a patients’ mouth, we can start to move teeth into place using the clear aligners from Invisalign® or Clear Correct®.  A vast majority of adult patients prefer to use clear aligners instead of braces to move their teeth. The average treatment time for this type of treatment is about a year, but that can be increased or decreased based on an individual patient’s needs. We can let you know what to expect during a consultation at our Burbank, CA office.

Caring for Your Teeth During Treatment

While undergoing orthodontic treatment, it is extremely important to care for your teeth in order to keep them healthy and prevent cavities. We recommend carrying a small toothbrush and floss with you and using it after every meal. This will help to remove any food that has become trapped around and between your teeth.  Additionally, under some circumstances we may recommend a tooth cleaning every three to four months in order to further assist the prevention of cavities and staining of your teeth.  Should you develop a cavity while wearing trays, we can treat it quickly without causing a delay to your overall treatment time.

Eating and Drinking

At Dr.’s Chan and Segulyev, we recommend that our patients in Burbank, CA who are using either Invisalign® or Clear Correct® for their orthodontic treatment can still eat all of their favorite hard and soft foods. The important thing to remember is that food is not supposed to be eaten while wearing the aligners. This means that food has to be saved for meal time instead of being eaten throughout the day. Simultaneously, hot beverages can warp the aligners, so we recommend drinking water only while wearing them.

After Treatment

Once your orthodontics treatment is complete, your teeth will be straight and your smile will look amazing!  At Dr.’s Chan and Segulyev, we recommend that patients undergo teeth whitening at home once done in order to complete their smile makeover. A simple teeth whitening can make a smile look beautiful and healthy. When combined with straight teeth, this gives our patients throughout the Burbank area something extra to smile about!

As cosmetic dentists, we can also use conservative cosmetic dentistry procedures in combination with your treatment so that if a tooth is damaged or not responding to the aligners, you can still have the smile that you have always dreamed of that looks both natural and beautiful!
